During research at the University of Western Ontario, this chemical compound called nobiletin was introduced into the diets of obese laboratory mice. Nobiletin not only made the mice lose a significant amount of weight, but also reversed the build-up of atherosclerotic plaques in the mice’s arteries.

Subsequent laboratory studies showed that nobiletin binds to proteins responsible for stabilizing the diurnal rhythm and regulates metabolic processes like digestion.
