The dilemma of what to take with you on a cruise accompanies every novice sailor. It is advisable not to leave packing for the last minute.

When choosing things for the trip, consider the body of water where you plan to sail, the time of year and the length of the trip. It is also important whether you have planned stops during the cruise or whether you will spend most of your time on the water.

Packing

Forget suitcases and backpacks with metal frames! There will be no room for them on a boat or yacht. Pack in a soft travel bag or a sailing bag that can be folded and placed on a shelf or in a compartment.

Nautical clothing

It may be warm on shore, but on the water the aura changes quickly. If you’re planning a cruise, be sure to prepare for changing weather conditions. Clothing should allow freedom of movement, be comfortable to wear, and be made of water-resistant materials. For windy and rainy days you will need stormwear. Their material should be windproof, waterproof and quick-drying, at the same time allowing the skin to breathe. Professional men’s Stormwear have a high fleece collar, contoured sleeves and reflective panels to make deck work easier. In turn women’s stormtrousers often are additionally equipped with insulated pockets, as well as belts and drawstrings at the bottom of the jacket allowing you to adjust the hem and fit the storm jacket to your body

The weather may not be perfect, but it is important to ensure thermal comfort during physical effort. During the voyage you will certainly need t-shirts t-shirts made of quick-drying material. It is worth buying a T-shirt that will also be functional in the summer due to its sunscreen. Remember to pack two pairs of shoes, one for walking on the shore and one, preferably with a non-slip sole, for moving around the ship. Even if you plan to cruise in the summer, mornings and evenings can be cold. Your bag should also include a fleece sweatshirt and waterproof pants. To protect your head from the sun and rain, bring a hat with a brim or a baseball cap. In winter and autumn, be sure to pack a warm, preferably woolen hat and gloves.

Your sailing gear should also include:

  • a map of the lakes you plan to sail on;
  • a powerbank to charge your phone, a charger;
  • a flashlight, preferably a headlamp;
  • sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun reflecting off white surfaces;
  • sleeping bag;
  • towels and bedding (if not provided);
  • first aid kit, medications, hygiene items;
  • mosquito spray, tick repellent, bite ointment, lime;
  • sPF sunscreen and ointment for any burns;
  • pocket knife;
  • sailing gloves;
  • documents: ID card or passport, sailing license;
  • card, cash; money for a refundable deposit for the boat and for unexpected expenses.
