There are a growing number of fashion brands and designers who value animal welfare and ethical treatment. For this very reason, more and more fashion houses are abandoning natural fur, the production of which exposes animals to incredible suffering. See which brands around the world have given up on fur.

Oscar de la Renta is a well-known brand with a long tradition. It began in 1973 and quickly gained popularity among a huge number of women. Some time later, the company expanded its range to include luxury perfumes.

In August of this year, the fashion house declared that once the sale of items featuring natural fur was completed, future collections would be free of it. The company also announced that it will become fully fur-free no later than the end of October this year.

What other fashion houses have said “no” to natural fur? Many of them did it much earlier than Oscar de la Renta. Here are a few of them.

Calvin Klein

One of the first designers to say no to fur was Calvin Klein. He did it in 1994, referring to his personal reflections on the handling of animals as well as humans. By doing so, he broke contracts with fur product manufacturers, some of which were more than a dozen years old.

Versace

Donatella Versace has communicated that fur is not for her, and that killing animals for fashion purposes makes no sense. She made this statement in an interview with “1843 Magazine”.

Gucci

This fashion house announced its abandonment of fur in 2017. It did so during a live broadcast on Facebook, which made the brand’s spring-summer 2018 collections free of these products.

Giorgio Armani

This brand decided to stop using natural fur in its designs in 2016. However, this happened after a lot of pressure from pro-animal organizations. Giorgio decided that killing animals to obtain fur is no longer necessary in today’s fashion.
